A new trend in plastic surgery provides women a chance to regain their pre-baby bodies by getting plastic surgery after their pregnancy . The “mommy makeover,” a triple play of surgical procedures , is growing more popular nationwide .

A mommy makeover often consists of breast implants or breast lift , liposuction and a tummy tuck . In the last year , doctors in the United States performed more than 325,000 mommy makeover procedures on mothers ages 20 to 39 , a boost of 11 percent compared to 2005, according to info from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Oklahoma Plastic surgeon, Dr. Juan Brou, whose practice is based in Oklahoma City, said he has also seen a rise in moms looking for these mommy makeovers types of procedures .

“Weight gain during pregnancy often will put fat deposits in unwanted locations ,” Brou said. “Someone can work and exercise very hard and these deposits still don’t go away. Some people just can’t shake it off.”

Many women turn to liposuction to remove these fatty areas. Breast lifts and breast augmentation are also popular post-baby plastic surgery procedures, Brou said.

“Even if women don’t breast feed, the breasts can still loose substance and volume,” Brou said. “Many women want their breast restored back to their original volume and look .”

Tummy tucks are another common cosmetic surgery procedure that can eliminate stretch marks and a condition known as diastasis . Diastasis occurs when a woman’s abdominal muscles become separated, which sometimes happens with women who are carrying larger babies. This condition leaves a woman with a lower tummy that cannot be exercised away.

Brou pointed out that it is important for women considering having a mommy makeover to be sure they don’t intend to get pregnant again.

“I always tell the patient that if you want to have more kids to do that before the surgery,” Brou said. “Most commonly, patients came to see me after they’ve had about three children and are happy with their family’s size .”
